The Venezuelian Sommelier Association was created in 1990 in order to meet the need to prepare professional personnel to serve wine correctly in the various restaurants of the city of Guayana, Venezuela. Leonardo d’Addazio, a restaurateur, is the founder. With the help of Giuseppe Vaccarini and the A.I.S. books, he has started to train women and men for free, providing them the opportunity for a professionnal course.

“Best Young Sommelier”

training

Through the Academy of Sommellerie of Venezuela the training is carried out as a two level course of 150 hours each plus an obligatory apprenticeship period. A complementary course is a second language (English or French) to be studied at the same time or intensively, as well as visits to vineyards and important localities as far as quality and celebrity of Venezuelian wines are concerned. A great help was given to the training program by the books written by Giuseppe Vaccarini and afterwards by those of the ASI. Moreover, with the assistance of Maria Isabel Mijares in the form of training and advising about the knowledge of wine and oenology with the books of Emile Peynaud. During the last two years, we focused on professional training and indeed we doubled the number of professionals working in restaurants, as wine distributors, in hotels, in wine bars etc.
