Graduates from the Gastronomy InstituteNorwegian Sommelier Education and Norsk Vinfagskole are all eligible for automatic membership. Our main aim is understanding of the importance of wine in conjunction with food. To be a special interest organisation for sommeliers and to safeguard the future of the profession. To provide information on food and wine, their traditions and future. To encourage international sommelier’s cooperation in pursuit of knowledge of the role of wine in other food cultures. Today the Norwegian Sommelier Association has 210 members, our Annual General Meeting is held the first week of February each year over a two-day period. We conduct Norwegian Championship every year in the spring, together with young Sommelier of the year. In 2008 we have extended the number of board members to nine.

National Competition is held in spring every year.

training

A national team have started a training, where the candidates meet four times a year for tasting, testing, and training in front of cameras. Theory is also taught. Otherwise each candidate must do a lot of self-taught studying.
